Welcome to the Spruce Grove Neighbour Network, which provides online and in-person support for people interested in creating connections with their neighbours and within their neighbourhood. This online area is for members of the Neighbour Network to discuss how you are currently connecting with neighbours and any challenges or obstacles you are facing.

By becoming a member of the Spruce Grove Neighbour Network, you now have access to resources, ideas and neighbourhood building tools to help grow the connections on your block and in your neighbourhood. You will have opportunities to share ideas and help build the overall network. Your contributions will also help build a sense of community and connectedness on every block, apartment and condominium complex in Spruce Grove.

Our communities are stronger when we care about each other and the neighbourhoods we live in; knowing your neighbours is vital to creating a safe and connected community.

    This month I have been thinking a lot about the different relationships neighbours have. Some neighbours become friends. Some neighbours remain respectful but don’t share too much about themselves. Some neighbours bring a welcome gift for people who move to the block. Other neighbours are related.

    I am curious what type of relationship you have with your neighbours and what is your ideal neighbour relationship?

    Help a senior on your block

    Register for SeniorConnect Tri-Region, a free online training program that teaches participants about how to provide support and connect with their aging neighbours.

    This is an excellent opportunity for us to work together to help seniors in our community find local information, resources and support.

    It is made up of six online training modules that will each take between 15 and 40 minutes to complete.

    Module topics include:

    • Why connecting with seniors is important
    • Caregiver burnout
    • Mental illness (dementia, delirium and depression)
    • Elder abuse
    • Addictions
    • Diversity

    During these challenging times it is important to find ways to be good neighbours to one another and look for opportunities to provide assistance and support to seniors where you can and when it is safe to do so. You may consider the following services, for example, that don't involve physical contact:

    • Delivering groceries or medical supplies
    • Shoveling the walk
    • A friendly chat on the phone

    Halloween is a wonderful time of year to meet your neighbours. Trick or treating provides the opportunity to interact and engage with your neighbours. With COVID-19, this year’s Halloween may look a little different but there are still opportunities to celebrate and meet your neighbours.

    Hi,
    My name is Karyn Hurlbut and I want to welcome you to the Spruce Grove Neighbour Network. I am so excited to be launching this project because I believe neighbouring can positively impact our relationships, quality of life, and our community.
