The City of Spruce Grove is gearing up for another busy construction year that will include many new projects, as well as the completion of multi-phased projects started in previous years. These projects will enhance the City’s roadways, utilities, buildings, parks and facilities.
This site has been created to help keeping the residents and businesses of Spruce Grove informed and aware of any and all impacts these projects may have on day to day life. We know that construction can impact residents and businesses and we thank you for your patience while we complete this work.

Traffic signal work overnight at Century Road/Grove Drive intersection

One evening this weekend (Friday, Saturday or Sunday) during overnight hours, crews will be working on the traffic signals at the Century Road and Grove Drive intersection. There will be one northbound lane closed and one southbound lane closed on Century Road to accommodate the work. At least one lane in each direction will be maintained at all times. Please look for and follow all signage and barricades.

This work is to replace the existing watermain within Golden Spike Road/Calahoo Road, from south of the CN Rail to Weston Drive.
- All watermain work and surface restoration work is complete.
Atco Gas Project – Diamond Avenue
Diamond Avenue from Madison Crescent to Schram Street ; the work is to install a new gas main to reinforce service in the Industrial area.
- All work by Atco Gas is complete
2023 Surface Improvement Program
- Jespersen Avenue – Road construction on Jespersen Avenue from King Street to Queen Street is complete.
- Creekside Way – Resurfacing work at Creekside Way is complete.
- Stoneshire Manor – Road Construction work at Stoneshire Manor is complete.
2023 Deer Park Surface Rehabilitation
Project includes concrete curb and gutter and sidewalk removal and replacement, as well as milling/paving of roads and pulverize/paving of roads.
- All work is complete.
2023 Highway 16A Resurfacing
Project will include milling and paving at Hwy 16A eastbound from Jennifer Heil Way to Nelson Drive and Hwy 16A eastbound from Century Road to the east City limit, including entire Hwy 16A/Century Road intersection.
- All work is complete.
2023 Pioneer Road Top Lift Asphalt Construction
Project includes prefilling and paving of Grove Drive from existing roundabout to approximately 180m west, and Pioneer Road from Grove Drive to Hwy 16A.
- All work is complete.
2023 Traffic Signal Rehab
This project includes replacement of the traffic signals at the Calahoo Road/Millgrove Drive intersection and improvements to the traffic signals at the Grove Drive/King Street intersection.
- All work is complete.
2023 Greenbury Village Dewatering
This project includes placement of storm sewer at the north end of the existing bio-swale, to encourage groundwater to drain to a washed rock and perforated pipe bed, lowering the water table in the immediate area. Monitoring of the groundwater levels, using existing monitoring wells, will continue through to September 2024.
- All work is complete.
2023 Pedestrian Walkways
Sidewalk constructed from the existing crosswalk to Broxton Park School, to the existing bus pad west of the Church. New crosswalks, with road narrowing concrete slabs, paint, signage, and delineators constructed at the McLeod/Brebner, and McLeod/LaZerte intersections and at the existing crosswalk to the school.
- All work is complete.
2023 Industrial Watermain Rehab
This project includes replacement and upsizing of watermains in the Industrial area of Spruce Grove. 2023 work is at Century Road from South Avenue to Diamond Avenue and then from Diamond Avenue from Century Road to Schram Street.
- Work expected to be completed by October 31.
2023 Pressure Reducing Valve Installation
To accomodate installation of pressure reducing valves in various locations in the north part of Spruce Grove (Longview Drive - north of Kings Link, Fairway Point, Aspenglen Drive - south of Ashgrove Drive and Fieldstone - within green space). Road closures will be as follows:
- Aspenglen Dr (PRV #6) -Completed and road is open.
- Fairway Dr (PRV #8) - Completed and road is open.
- Fieldstone Park (PRV #7) - Date: October 11 – 18. Completed and asphalt trail expected to be open to pedestrian traffic October 27
- Longview Dr (PRV #9) - Date: October 18 – 26. Longview Drive will be open to traffic by end of day October 26. Longview Drive will be closed again to traffic on October 30 between 9am and 2pm for paving.
2022/2023 Oversize Load Corridor
Work has been completed at all traffic signals on the Campsite Road/Jennifer Heil Way corridor, to place adapters on the north/south poles allowing them to accommodate oversize loads through Spruce Grove. Fortis will be moving overhead lines at Diamond Avenue and Campsite Road, to underground to allow the oversize loads to use this route.

- Fieldstone Park (PRV #7) - Date: October 11 – 18. Work expected within the green space north of Fieldstone Crescent and south of Linkside Court. The asphalt pedestrian walkway through this green space will be closed for the duration of the work.

- All watermain work is now complete. Surface work is ongoing and expected to be completed by September 30, at which time, Calahoo Road/Golden Spike Road will be fully opened to traffic.

2023 Pedestrian Walkways
New sidewalk on the south side of McLeod Avenue from the existing crosswalk at the east end of Broxton Park School, to the existing bus pad west of Broxton Park School and 3 new crosswalks with concrete bump outs, signage and high visible yellow paint, crossing McLeod Avenue. These new crosswalks allow for safer crossing of McLeod Avenue due to the bump outs and narrowed roadway. These also encourage traffic calming in the immediate area.
- All work is now complete.

Motorists travelling on Century Road can follow the detour signs on site to Yellowhead Road in order to continue north or south.

Work will be happening at the north end of the bioswale at the Greenbury Blvd/Greenbury Manor/Gilmore Way intersection. A new catch basin will be installed at the north end of the bioswale and a perforated pipe wrapped in washed rock will be connected from the new catch basin to existing storm sewer to better drain the bioswale.
There will be some minor traffic disruption but no road closures as the work happens.

This closure is expected to last approximately one week.
Crosswalks around the intersection will remain open throughout the work. A few parking spots will be temporarily removed on each side during the closure to allow crews access to the area.

The PRV's are to reduce high incoming water pressure and provide more functional water distribution along the north portion of the City.
Streamline Construction will begin work on September 18th, through mid October tentatively. Roads will be sequentially closed during PRV installation, one location at a time. Signage and notices will be provided prior to the work commencing.

Traffic disruptions: Through the duration of the project some sections of Golden Spike Road/Calahoo Road will be closed. Final phase of watermain construction is ongoing from Church Road to south of McLeod Avenue, within the southbound lanes of Calahoo Road.
Atco Gas Project – Diamond Avenue

Diamond Avenue from Madison Crescent to Schram Street; The work is to install a new gas main to reinforce service in the Industrial area. Most of the work will be done by directional drilling, but there will be some locations where excavation is required. Work is complete from Madison Crescent to Golden Spike Road. Work continues from Golden Spike Road to Schram Street.
- Start Date: May 11
- Completion Date: September 15
2023 Surface Improvement Program
- Jespersen Avenue – Work is complete from King Street to east of Main Street. Road construction from Main Street to Queen Street continues and is expected to be complete by September 15. Line Painting and landscaping work may continue.

- Completion Date: COMPLETE

This project includes replacement and upsizing of watermains in the Industrial area of Spruce Grove. 2023 work is at Century Road from South Avenue to Diamond Avenue and then from Diamond Avenue from Century Road to Schram Street.

- Completion Date: September 30
- Traffic Disruptions: Road will be narrow and two direction traffic will be maintained. At times, short road closures will be necessary and detours will be in place. Appropriate traffic accommodations will be put in place including barricades, signs and flag persons as required.
2023 Pressure Reducing Valve Installation
This project includes installation of concrete chambers with valves to control water pressures in various locations in Spruce Grove (Longview Drive – north of King’s Link, Fairway Drive – south of Fairway Point, Aspenglen Drive - south of Ashgrove Drive and Fieldstone – within green space)
- Start Date: September 18
- Completion Date: October 20
- Traffic Disruptions: Where necessary, road closures up to 7 days will be necessary and detours will be in place. Appropriate traffic accommodations will be put in place including barricades, signs and flag persons as required.
Reminder: Please slow down!
When driving through construction zones, drivers are reminded to slow down, obey all posted speed limits, and watch for portable traffic signs or flag people who may be in place to manage traffic flow. And please give crews room to work so everyone can get home safely at the end of the day.
