Consultation has concluded

Spruce Grove Mayor Stuart Houston called a special council meeting, which took place on Tuesday, Aug. 4, at 5 p.m., to discuss options related to the use of face coverings (e.g. masks) in Spruce Grove. The virtual meeting was live streamed at sprucegrove.org/livecouncil.

During the meeting, City Administration provided Council with information on the topic of wearing face coverings in public places. City Council also considered motions that they deemed appropriate in relation to that topic.

In advance of the meeting, the City of Spruce Grove sought public feedback on the use of face coverings in Spruce Grove and asked members of the public to participate in a survey. The survey closed on Tuesday, Aug. 4, at 12 p.m. The survey results were presented to City Council during the special council meeting.

After reviewing the information and discussing various options, Council directed Administration to come back with a bylaw that includes options for a staged approach to potentially implementing mandatory face coverings.

Spruce Grove continues to actively promote and educate the community on how to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Face coverings are not intended as a substitute for physical distancing (when possible) and other Alberta Health Services recommendations.

The health and safety of the community and staff remains our top priority.
