What is Re-imagined Central Park?
A multi-year revitalization project to enhance one of our most loved and well-used community gems: Central Park.
How long will construction take?
Construction begins in May 2024 and will continue throughout the spring and summer. It will resume in the spring of 2025 and phase one will be complete by late summer 2025.
What changes are happening at the park?
Many exciting new amenities are planned, including a wheeled sports park and pump track, playground structures with accessible features, new picnic and shelter areas, and upgrades to the trails and walking paths. Safety is a priority which is why we’ve designed the park using CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) principals including improved sightlines and opportunities for natural surveillance. There will also be enhanced lighting around the wheeled sports park and pump track and security monitoring equipment.
What's happening to the trees, skating oval, splash pad, and other features?
A major priority of this project is retaining the key features of the park we all love so much, including the healthy, mature trees and forested area, skating oval, stage, splash pad, fire pit, and Lions Log Cabin.
What about community events that normally take place at Central Park?
Central Park will remain open and accessible for the entire length of the construction process. It will still play host to many of our favourite community events like Rotary Ribfest, Agra Fair, Summer in the City camps, and Light Up.
