Construction resumes at Central Park!
Crews are back on site at Central Park this week and work has resumed, following the winter shut down. Last year, crews dismantled and removed the old skate park and began installation of a brand new wheeled sports facility, including a pump track, skate bowl, and bike skills park. This year, work will continue on the wheeled sports park, as well as installation of playground equipment with accessible features, new picnic and shelter areas, and upgrades to the trails and walking paths. Here's what will be happening over the coming weeks and months:
- Fine concrete work and finishing on the wheeled sports park
- Soil cell construction
- Building and installing playground features
- Pouring concrete in non-skatepark areas including around the playground, walkways, swales, and planter areas
- Landscaping features including topsoil and seed, plants, furniture, and a water bottle fill station
- Installing asphalt on the walking trail (east side)
The park itself will remain open during construction and will continue to host popular events like Grove Gatherings performances, Rotary Ribfest, Agra Fair, and Summer in the City programming. For the safety of residents and crews, the construction site remains closed and off limits to the public. There's no firm completion date quite yet, but we expect to re-open the new and improved Central Park to residents by late summer. Watch for details about the official grand opening celebration in August!
