What is a brand?

    A brand is not a logo, a product or a service. It’s an emotional connection to our community, an investment in economic development and business expansion, and supports civic engagement and a positive reputation. 

    Why does the City of Spruce Grove need an updated brand?

    The City has not gone through a formal branding exercise in 20+ years and during that time, the community has grown substantially in both population and diversity. A strong and refreshed brand strategy will:

    1. Reflect the significant growth and transformation the City of Spruce Grove has seen over the past two decades.
    2. Communicate the City’s purpose and message as a diverse, vibrant, and growing community with compelling investment opportunities, many recreational and cultural activities and amenities, and a high quality of life.
    3. Help drive economic development, attract investment, retain businesses, and enhance community engagement and pride.

    What's the difference between a logo and a brand?

    A logo is part of an overall brand strategy. It is the visual representation of the brand, but the brand is more than just the logo. A brand creates an emotional connection to a community and captures what makes it unique in a way that enables the City to identify and promote itself as a distinct, regionally competitive city for economic and community development. 

    What is "place" branding?

    A “place” brand for a municipality differs from the type of branding that would be developed for a product or service.

    Place branding is multi-dimensional in nature, as a “place” is typically connected to a community’s history, culture, values, and future aspirations. It focuses on community identity and pride and tells the story of a community.

    How can I get involved?

    Community input will play a vital role in the development of the City’s new brand strategy and residents are encouraged to provide their feedback to help in the creation of an updated brand for our city! An online survey will be available from May 22 to July 2, 2024. Additionally, several focus groups and individual interviews will be conducted with a range of community members.

    What will the new brand look like?

    We don't know yet! The results of the public engagement and other research will be used to develop multiple brand concepts that will ultimately result in one new brand identity for Spruce Grove!

    When will the new brand be launched?

    The updated brand strategy for the City of Spruce Grove is expected to be launched in the fall of 2024.
