Construction Projects Update - August 17, 2023

2023 City Center Watermain Rehabilitation

This work is to replace the existing watermain within Golden Spike Road/Calahoo Road, from south of the CN Rail to Weston Drive.

• Start Date: May 15
• Completion Date: September 15
• Traffic disruptions: At different locations, throughout the duration of the project some sections of Golden Spike Road/Calahoo Road will be closed. Work from Weston Drive to Church Road is complete. Work from south of CN Rail to First Avenue on the north side of Hwy 16A to be complete by August 23. Currently First Avenue is closed at Calahoo Road as part of a traffic accommodation and safety plan. Remaining work, within the southbound lanes of Calahoo Road, from First Avenue, to Church Road, to be completed by September 15 with a new traffic accommodation and safety plan in place.

Atco Gas Project – Diamond Avenue

• Diamond Avenue from Madison Crescent to Schram Street; The work is to install a new gas main to reinforce service in the Industrial area. Most of the work will be done by directional drilling, but there will be some locations where excavation is required. Work is complete from Madison Crescent to Golden Spike Road. Work continues from Golden Spike Road to Schram Street.

2023 Surface Improvement Program

• Jespersen Avenue; concrete repairs and full depth pulverizing/paving at Jespersen Avenue from King Street to Queen Street.
  • Start Date: June 12
  • Completion Date: King Street to Main Street – Completed and open to traffic. Main Street to Queen Street – September 8
• Creekside Way; full depth pulverizing/paving.
  • Start Date: September 8
  • Completion Date: September 22
• Stoneshire Manor; concrete repairs and mill/pave.
  • Start Date: August 8
  • Completion Date: August 31

2023 Deer Park Surface Rehabilitation

Project will include concrete curb and gutter and sidewalk removal and replacement, as well as milling/paving of roads and pulverize/paving of roads.

• Start Date: July 25
• Completion Date: September 15
• Traffic Disruptions: Appropriate traffic accommodations will be put in place including barricades, signs and flag person where required.

2023 Highway 16A Resurfacing

Project will include milling and paving at:

• Hwy 16A eastbound from Jennifer Heil Way to Nelson Drive.
• Hwy 16A eastbound from Century Road to the east City limit, including full Hwy 16A/Century Road intersection.
  • Start Date: July 23
  • Completion Date: COMPLETE
• Traffic Disruptions: Work will be completed at night. During the day, traffic will be split on the westbound lanes. Appropriate traffic accommodations will be put in place including barricades, signs and flag person as required.

2023 Pioneer Road Top Lift Asphalt Construction

• Project includes prefilling and paving of Grove Drive from existing roundabout to approximately 180m west and Pioneer Road from Grove Drive to Hwy 16A. Work will be completed at night and will immediately follow the work being done on Highway 16A. Traffic will be accommodated and appropriate signage. barricades and flag persons will be initiated as required.
  • Start Date: Immediately following work on Hwy 16A – Early August
  • Completion Date: COMPLETE
• Traffic Disruptions: This work will be completed at night. Appropriate traffic accommodations will be put in place including barricades, signs and flag persons as required.

2023 Traffic Signal Rehab

This project includes replacement of the traffic signals at the Calahoo Road/Millgrove Drive intersection and improvements to the traffic signals at the Grove Drive/King Street intersection. New traffic signal installation at Calahoo Road/Millgrove Drive intersection is complete.

• Completion Date: August 30

2023 Industrial Watermain Rehab

This project includes replacement and upsizing of watermains in the Industrial area of Spruce Grove. 2023 work is at Century Road from South Avenue to Diamond Avenue and then from Diamond Avenue from Century Road to Schram Street.

• Start Date: June 27
• Completion Date: September 30
• Traffic Disruptions: Road will be narrow and two direction traffic will be maintained. At times, short road closures will be necessary and detours will be in place. Appropriate traffic accommodations will be put in place including barricades, signs and flag persons as required.

2023 Pressure Reducing Valve Installation

This project includes installation of concrete chambers with valves to control water pressures in various locations in Spruce Grove (Longview Drive – north of King’s Link, Fairway Drive – south of Fairway Point, Aspenglen Drive - south of Ashgrove Drive and Fieldstone – within green space)

• Start Date: August 28
• Completion Date: September 30
• Traffic Disruptions: Where necessary, road closures up to 7 days will be necessary and detours will be in place. Appropriate traffic accommodations will be put in place including barricades, signs and flag persons as required.
